The Year of Creativity - Week 4

This was my fourth week of strongly encouraging myself to do something creative every day. Technically the end of the month I originally envisioned, but I think I'm going to keep it going.

Week 4

This week consisted primarily of a series of very similar scrap studies, broken up on low motivation days with incremental progress on my weaving project.

Themes of the Week:

Scraps: Still using a lot! This week's supplies came pretty much 100% from my scrap bin.
Geometry & Composition: I worked on a series of quick, postcard-sized studies focused on assembling scraps in interesting ways (leveraging, where possible, there existing shape).
Appliqué: I am also playing around with using some layered decorative stitching pieces as appliqué in the little postcard studies. This evolved out of the mending technique I developed for my denim jacket last week (and week, primarily uses the swatch and scraps from that project).

Sunday - Scrappy Quilted Postcard #1

On Sunday I went back into my big bag of scraps for some more scrappy quilting. I also wanted to do something with the floral embroidery sample swatch I had made when mending the jacket, so I made that into a little appliqué layer.

Monday - Scrappy Quilted Postcard #2

I enjoyed the little scrappy postcard process from Sunday, but I didn't love the look of the edge finishing. I decided to do another one and sew it to a backing so the edges would be encased. That worked, but because I'm using denim as the base layer it ended up more rounded than I had intended.

Tuesday - Quilt Layout & Weaving

On Tuesday I laid out some pieces for another postcard, but wasn't feeling motivated enough to assemble them. I did add a couple rows to my ongoing weaving.

Wednesday - Weaving

Wednesday was another weaving-only day.

Thursday - Scrappy Quilted Postcard #3

On Thursday I assembled the scrappy postcard I had laid out on Tuesday (although it changed a little in the process). This one ended up with rounded edges too.
